I don't know if you've already heard, but David Erwin (over at Erwin House) has started a business that sells 1950s-inspired doors called Crestview Doors. Until now, I had not really considered the need for a new front door. The one we currently have is fine (although I don't believe that it is original to the home), painted white with eight square panels, it really screams boring. Well, needless to say, I am now seriously thinking about purchasing one of those doors. Here is a very primitive "drawing" of my current front door (was this style even popular in the 1950s?):
Walking through my neighborhood, I can see that many of the homes still retain their original front door - many of which resemble those at Crestview Doors perfectly. I love all the doors, but one style in particular (The Woodrow) completely enthralls me. I first saw it in this home that was for sale a few months ago (near my own home):

Those ranch doors bring back a lot of memories. I grew up in a 1950-60s ranch neighborhood. When I babysat in the neighborhood, those front door windows used to freak me out cuz anyone at the front door could see right in. Creepy when you were in a strange house last at night. It got trendy back then to put contact paper in the windows so people couldn't see in.

One of the few things that disappoints me about having a "smaller" house is the limitations on front doors. Way back in the day we talked about getting a big round entranceway, or double doors, or a half-moon window on top... but now we're pretty limited to standard entry doors.
Both Lowes and Home Depot sell this beautiful medieval-style entry door -- heavy wood with wrought iron crosswork over a small porthole window.
50s is another way to go, though :D
