Yard Help

It's finally that time of year when I turn my focus from interior home renovations to exterior. I have to admit, the yard is always something I dread. From mowing the lawn to constant watering, I just don't get any joy out of something that requires so much work, but never really has any pay off...for me anyway. Well, this year, I'm going to make it pay off. I really want my yard to be something special. The only problem is, I haven't the time or money to do anything grandiose, and I have no vision for what the yard needs. So, I'm asking for help from whoever reads this post. Please look at the pictures I have posted of my front and back yards and tell me what you think I could do, being conscious of a tight budget.

Any ideas?

It's hard to tell from your photos, but I'd love to get my hands on your yard. All those nice rock walls and unlevel surfaces. Seriously would have hated it years ago, but after begining to tackle my own wacky yard, I enjoy the character. I wish I could help more. Being on the tight budget doesn't help, I know! Perhaps taking your photos to a reputible garden/green house and asking about what perenials would work, as they tend to need little care once established. Buy smaller sized plants, they are cheaper and within a year will fill in. Hostas come in many varieties and are near impossible to kill, a good base plant. Also, if you have neighbors/friends that have plants that need dividing, ask to take some. My girl frind gave me a bunch of stuff back when I had no idea what I was doing. It was a big help and cheap too! I've since moved them to better locations and divided them as I get better at this stuff.
Have fun & good luck!
